Metheringham Library and Health Centre

This entrance courtyard for Metheringham library and health centre aims to provide the village with a new public space, one that draws upon and enhances its existing character while being a dynamic and fluid piece of design its own right.

To tie the scheme in with the proposed Spires and Steeples arts trail, we took inspiration from one of the villages most prominent landmarks - a brick dovecote located next to the main road. By linking the two we will be able to draw people down into the village centre where they will be met by a trio of artworks - two exisitng statues and the courtyard - which will be an artwork in and of itself.

To achieve this we have used a cut and paste approach, ‘taking apart’ the dovecote and reassembling the components in an abstract way, using them as part of a well thought out design. The space also plays with colour and perspective in a way that invites curiosity and provides stimulus.
